Officer found dead in police box after taking a routine break

Whilst on duty on the night of 27th January 1945 Constable Wrighton stopped for a routine break in a Police Box at Cleethorpes where he was found dead some time later having been asphyxiated by gas from a fractured gas main which unknowingly had been damaged in an earlier enemy air raid.

George, 42, was a War Reserve Constable based at Cleethorpes.

He was survived by his wife, son and daughter.
