Your Memories

Lawrence was my uncle and I have spoken to my late grandfather on many occasions about his brother Lawrence who all in the family say I am very similar to in looks and character. When news was received by my Great Grandparents of Lawrence’s death they were told of the circumstances; Lawrence was fighting near Arras in trenches and was ordered to go and collect a seriously wounded German soldier. Lawrence crawled out of his trench and made contact with the soldier. He then helped him to his feet and brought him back to the trench of the Leicester Tigers. The German soldier entered the trench first and Lawrence followed. However, just before Lawrence got himself into a position of safety he was shot in the back and died in the trench. His body was collected and identified and his personal possessions were gathered together and returned to his family in Leicester. His person possessions were given to me by my late Grandfather. My family has visited the war grave on many occasions to pay our respects. God bless all who new and helped Lawrence. chris whatsize — 15.10.2008
