01.04.2008 : tina powley wrote I dont know this young man but I do want to say thankyou for being in our services if it wasent for men like you where would we be?

01.04.2008 : Yvonne Loudon wrote I don't know this young man either, but I too wish to express my gratitude for his soldering.
I have an 18 year old grandson waiting to join the Royal Marines - which, frankly, fills me with terror.
I also have a son, his dad, who died in a motorbike accident a few weeks ago, so I know just how much you are hurting. Nothing can ever overcome the loss of someone special.
Time does dull the pain, sad memories do recede, but love never does.
I know you must be very proud of your John and his willingness to defend those less fortunate than us.
Yvonne Loudon

02.04.2008 : Patricia Hawtin wrote John Thornton was born just a couple of weeks before my daughter. He has always wanted to be in the marines, he died doing the job he loved. My thoughts are with his parents Lyn and Peter his two brothers and his very proud grandparents. God bless you John.

The guy was inspirational and one of the most enthusiastic people I have ever met! As well as a wonderful singer with a great deal of passion behind his voice. Now 8 years on I have taken up music thearte as a university course. John, I know I only met you for a year at F.U.S, but let me just say this, You've shown me a great deal that there is to know about following your path to where you're happiest the most. I cant thank you enough,

One of the finest Britons we shall forever remember!

17.04.2008 : Carla Fisher wrote I did not know John, but heard of him through my 16 year old son, who happens to be a pupil at the school John attended. I would like to express my most heartfelt sympathies to his family, and gratitude that brave men like John are doing their utmost to protect us and all that we hold dear. My son's greatest wish is to become a Royal Marine, and has been for about a year, although I dread it becoming a reality, I hope he has the dedication and bravery exhibited by John. Good bye, God bless you John, and our
thoughts and prayers to your family.

17.10.2008 : Christopher Durkin wrote Lt John Thornton was an outstanding royal marines officer. I had the privilege of having him as my boss at 40 commando royal marines, charlie company, FSG. I speak for everyone in FSG when i say that their is not a day or night that goes buy that i don't think about Jt or dave marsh. They were fantastic bootnecks and their memory will live on in the royal marines for ever. It was a pleasure to have served with them and to call them my oppo. They are truly missed.
