04.02.2009 : Geoff Haden wrote My wife and I have just restored 5 Cwmdonkin Drive – the birthplace of Dylan Thomas - to its condition in 1914 when it was bought as a new house by the Thomas family just a few months before Dylan was born in the front bedroom. The house was open on 27th October 2008 (Dylan's 94th birthday) and will be available for guided tours and Edwardian style small dinner parties. The main use wiill be as a self catering experiential house where you can sample Edwardian life. So, for example, if you book a week from 15th August 2009 you will enter Number Five on 15th August 1915 with a newspaper of the day to greet you, a piano and a wind-up gramophone.People who have stayed in the house remark about its calmness (probably due to the lack of TV and radio!) and all see something in the house which gives a lasting memory. There may be no ghosts but the presence of Dylan is everwhere and the house is well placed to explore all of Dylan's haunts in Swansea, Mumbles and Gower and understand their importance in inspiring the 3/4rds of his output written in the house.
