04.06.2009 : Graham Murphy wrote I am best friends with a cousin of cyrus's and she is terribly upset over the loss. i dont even know where to begin, it must be a terrible loss for all his family and my thoughts and prayers are with them. they will never be able to overcome this loss but hopefully they will find the strength to move on in the future.

i did my phase 1 training with Cyrus in 2007 at ATR Bassingbourne we were both in the same platoon (Namur) he was a the laughter of the platoon and a good tea maker. when we finished at Bassingbourne we both went to ITC Catterick once again we where both in the same platoon (Chindit) and in the same section. Cyrus was a good friend to me when i had problems and and when he was struggling with things i would help him out when we where together no 1 could split us up, he was like a brother to me and also he is the best soldier i know R.I.P m8 Swift and Bold buddy

We feel close to your loss as we lost our son killed in action with 1 Rifles just before Christmas. Our pain is overwhelming, but these were special men dedicated to their profession, cognizant of the risks and eager to do their duty. We must be proud of them.

For those of us intimately affected by the cost of these operations the price is beyond reckoning, recent Herrick tours have been particularly harrowing for our forces. We must not be frightened or daunted by the grief these losses cause, but emboldened to ensure that the sacrifices made are the foundations of a better world.

Cyrus’ and Stuart's potential are such a great loss.

We grieve with you.

20.07.2009 : Helen S wrote Just heard Cyrus' last letter read out on the Jeremy Vine show on Radio 2 and the subsequent interview with Cyrus' mother. What a wonderful young man, it must have been so difficult for him to write that letter and even more difficult for the family to read, although so precious.

What a wonderful family the Thatcher family sound and I wish you all the best for the future.

07.08.2009 : Mark Moorton wrote I didn't know Cyrus but read his letters in The Independent and was deeply affected by these and particularly his last letter. He seemd to have died doing something that he really loved - he just seemed to be an incredible person for which I hope the Armed Forces will be incredibly proud. I have shared the printed letters with my family because I wanted us to have a discussion about conflict and the personal impact that this has. For Cyrus and his family, we thank you for the deeper understanding that this has given us.
