22.12.2007 : Barry Jenkinson wrote Being a close family friend of Sheffield United inside forward Billy Russell, I used to attend matches at Bramall Lane in the late 1950s, travelling from my home in north Wales.

On one memorable occasion I was allowed into the home dressing room before a match against Middlesbro' and met the players.....a huge thrill to the then 15 year old that I was.

Joe Shaw was always my favourite player, Billy apart of course!, and to this day I declare to all who care to listen that Joe was the best centre half I have ever seen. Immaculate in the tackle and in distribution, he was a pure footballing defender and very unlucky to be in the shadow of the then "golden boy" of English football, Billy Wright.
Billy Wright was very good, Joe Shaw was GREAT!
