I am so very sorry that you gave up your life in the call of duty.
I have an 18 year old grandson waiting to join the Royal Marines and this really fills me with so much dispair.
I also have my son, his dad, who died on his motorbike a few weeks ago, so I really know how much this family is hurting
Thank you David for your willingness to defend those in need

Many good times have been had and those are the ones I will remember.
Only a few months ago did I see you, stood with your most famous pose, a massive smile on your face, one hand holding a pint and the other stretched out shaking the hands of all your friends, all the friends that are now grieving for you.
What a pleasure it is to call you a friend, a friend that is a Hero and a hero that will never be forgotten.
My thoughts are with Dave’s Family and other friends who are grieving at this time just as I am; let’s remember the good times because we know that he will be looking down with that beaming smile!

You will be missed very much by everyone because of your loving, caring and funny personality. I remember very much your first lads holiday as Nathan recalls it, i was lucky enough to be there the same time with your mum,dad and Katy and to share some of the nights out in Magaluf, that little spanish man which became your friend due to you being on his boxing game most of the time trying to beat any one elses score, thats if they could get on to have a go. Your 18th party i had to take 2 days of work to recover. Good times and good stories which i will keep forever and will be able to pass on to Molly in years to come. Little things keep making me smile the Billy the Kid tattoo, cowboy boots, flying saucers oh yeah and your collection!! You will always be our hero and will love you always Catherine and Richard. xx

My brother from another mother!! Can't believe i'm sat here writing this.... I'm so proud to have had you as a part of my life..... who else will understand the pain of four hour long Sunday walks, searching for tadpoles in Jubb Hill Pond, sledging into trees (Ailsa!!) and still managing to develop into a fully formed adults, albeit ones with slightly alcoholic tendencies!!
My favourite memories:
our parents thinking that trick or treating was begging and that they could make it up to us by throwing a party at my house...... how much makeup did you really need to pull off that vampire look??!!
2. skip a few years and we're sat in Adam's conservatory in the early hours of a drunken morning with your running commentary on how i had developed rather well, haha... much to the horror of the rest of us who were trying to make you see that despite my bra size i was still waaaaaaaaay too close to being your sister!!!
A legend in every sense of the word you were, and will always be an inspiration... Always smiling, laughing and injecting everyone with your energy.
ps. i drank a pint yesterday.... you would've been proud! xxx

08.04.2008 : Dan Marsh wrote Dave. I can’t believe you’re gone. You were like another brother to me and a great mate to everyone who was lucky enough to know you. I have so many good memories of the stuff we’ve got up to over the 23 years that we’ve known each other and I never thought that that last night out in Barnsley on Molly’s birthday would be the last time I saw you. Through the years we’ve had so many great times together, whether it be wrestle mania on the back garden with Ed; a fire down the side of the blue garage; a night out in Newcastle; a trek over the fields in Hoylandswaine (in chefs white’s that we’d stolen from the nelson to keep warm!!); or even just a chilled few drinks down at the bridge. These are times I’ll never forget.

You were a top bloke Dave and one who wasn’t embarrassed to tell your family and friends how important they were to you, and with Claire you have brought into the world a gorgeous little girl who obviously shares you outlook on life (smiling at everything!)..........

09.04.2008 : chloe smith wrote David Marsh... well where do i start.... you were such a little sweetie at school and looks like that smile stuck as you turned into a man. Thurgoland was such a small community, but the bus ride home was always full of fun, games and laugher :). Although me and ollie have not seen u in years, you never forget those you grew up with in such a small place.
It was only the other day that i drove my son upto Thurgoland and was telling him stories of what mischief his uncle ollie and you lads got up to.
Although u have left us dave marsh, you will live on through your daughter and no doubt she will be so very proud of her daddy.
I do need to say you have not changed in the slightist from school looking at your picture.... well apart from your growth spurt & ?tattoo?!
You are going to be missed incredibly by everyone who you graced with your presence, one true star who was a hero for our country... with one hell of a big smile.

We have been best friends for as long as i can remember and i think about you everyday and your family. You were like a brother and not only will i miss them late nights drinking port and smoking cigars talking about molly, claire and life (you had some interesting views), but most of all i will miss the joy in everybodys eyes when you entered a room. When ever you got into trouble all you had to do was smile and it made everything better, you made everybody laugh with your crazy antics. He used to earn some pocket money doing a bit of work in the garden for my Mum and Dad when he was still at school, and though he didn't know much about gardening, he was always willing to have a go. He had such good manners and that big friendly smile - Mum and Dad really enjoyed his company.
We were all so pleased for him when he achieved his ambition to join up, and then so worried when all the danger loomed too.
I have felt glum all day since I heard this news, so I can't begin to imagine how his family and close friends must be feeling. Won't we all wear our poppies with pride this year.

Air horns sent us on our way.

Relations, friends and strangers
Assembled with one mind,
Remembering brave soldiers
Fighting for mankind.

People from all corners
Turned out in full force,
A sight to see, both young and old,
Each one stayed the course.

The day was for remembering,
To register concern,
For one of far too many
Destined never to return.

Though he can’t be here,

17.10.2008 : Christopher Durkin wrote Dave marsh was an absolutly hoofing oppo. There is not a day or night that goes by when i dont think about dave or jt.
I had the pleasure of serving with dave in the uk and in afghanistan and there is no better man that i would rather of had at my side. He is truly missed by all who knows him. I will hopefully see him again for a "booze".
