Your Memories

I was at school with Sandy- he lived just along the road. We went to youth theatre together and spent many happy drunken nights as teenagers. He was one of my best friends...

I last met him in '79 in Soho, when I was 22, when we went to a japanese resaurant with, I think, Jane. He was off to Africa, and so was I. We lost touch...

I was so shocked and saddened to hear of his death. I think of him regularly. But the Sandy I remember is the one who was always out in front. I'm listening right now to Clockwork Orange- which he introduced me to (and rather to his Dad's shock, him too!). Sandy was the first to visit Africa, the first with a Walkman, the first doing cookery for 6th year studies, the first to learn guitar (with Robin Harper, no less!), the first to see Pink Floyd and Hawkwind, the first to read Oz....

His disappearance led me to learn what he had done in the past 30 years. All the wonderful things he did with his life are no surprise - he was a shining star and always will be, to me.
