HEWKIN Ronald (Ron). Of Borrowash, passed away on March 14th 2009 at the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary, aged 71 years. The dearly loved husband of Sylvia, much loved father of Ronnie and Leslie, dear father-in-law of Mandy and loving grandfather of Jenni, Penny, Debbie, Becky, Vicky and Isaac. Funeral, Wednesday, March 25th, service 1.20pm at Markeaton Crematorium. Family flowers only please, but donations may be sent payable to "Nightingale Macmillan Unit Community Nurses" at Nightingale Macmillan Unit, 117 London Road, Derby. DE1 2QS.

Ronald Hewkin was employed as a process worker at the Spondon British Celanese plant for 20 years, until he retired in 1998.

He married Sylvia in 1960 after meeting in Mrs Hewkin's home town of Alnwick, Northumberland, where Derby-born Mr Hewkin was serving with the RAF. They returned to Derby later that year and went on to have two sons, Ronald and Leslie.

Mr Hewkin began working as a joiner, which he had done before entering the RAF, for Rawsons builders, before joining British Celanese, now Courtaulds, as a process worker in 1978. Derby Telegraph — 06.07.2009
