29.08.2008 : Keith Elcomb wrote I am so sorry to learn about John's tragic accident. He was one of those 'old school' decent men and it was a pleasure to have known him over the last 20 years.

A superb engineer, who could repair or make anything in metal, he helped me out with many a major basket case of bits and pieces. Reliable, dependable and totally honest, he demanded repect and deserved it.

Dear John, bless you for everything. Dear Rose and family, my deepest sympaies to you at this very sad time and my tears too.

30.08.2008 : jayne davies wrote John was a true gentleman and brilliant engineer. For the past 17 years he did all my re-bore and crankshaft work. Selfishly to me his loss as an engineer is huge, my business will never be able to replace him.

I always enjoyed my visits to take work to John. His good humour and outlook on life have left me with some memorable anecdotes. In turn when I needed some help with my engineering business, he was first in the door to help.

John will be irreplaceable to so many.

Our thoughts are with his wife and family at this sad time.

God bless and thoughts and love to family and everyone that you touched.

02.09.2008 : Mick Robinson wrote I was stunned to hear of Johns passing away, I rode against him many times in the Isle of Man, he was a superb rider, totally safe, extremely accurate, very fast and an inspiration to us all, he will never be forgotten and the Isle of Man will never be the same without him.

My sincere sympathies to his wife Rose.

09.09.2008 : Bob Millinship wrote A true motorcycle racer who only wanted to race on the greatest circuit in the world. All the best, John and condolences to your family.

All please note: John Caffrey has informed me that John's funeral will be held on Saturday 13th September at 2pm in Bletherston Church, Pembrokeshire, which is approximately 7 miles NNW of Narberth.

07.10.2008 : george ridgeon wrote John built my G50 engine in 1973 along with another rider giving up a night out, I of course supplied fish & chips & tea.

This was the camaraderie of the Manx GP and all racing to any true sportsman. You will be missed and remembered.

We will have a drink to you at our get together in February in Evesham

Just one question John, why couldn't we get past you?

George Ridgeon

21.10.2008 : Pat Alexander wrote This news is indeed tremendously sad.

John was indeed a very talented rider & engineer.

I have submitted a picture that was taken on Sunday 19th August 1979 at a North Glos MCC meeting at Keevil Aerodrome, in which John features.

The event was for four-stroke machines up to 700cc, push start. The race leaders are coming into Steeple corner on the second lap of six. Ron Roebury leads on the Curry Honda 500 twin, John is tailing him attentively on the Vendetta G50, Andy Alexander (my father) is next in line on his 686cc Rickman Triumph and Steve Gibbs is the tailender of the quartet, on his 470cc Honda four.

John finished in fourth place at the end of that race.

I hope that this picture adds an appropriate nostalgic note to the tribute.

On behalf of the Alexander family, may I register our heartfelt condolences to John’s family, especially Rose.

27.12.2008 : peter cooper wrote Saddened to read of the passing of John. I served with him on 20 sqdn at Tengah and enclose a photograph of his first racer, good memories.

02.02.2009 : Alan Keetley wrote Terrible tragedy especially to someone so dedicated to the sport. As a 16 year old I first met John when I was a mechanic for fellow competitor Terry Edwards. We became firm friends with John. He was always on hand to provide a smile, and advice on machine preparation and settings. A lovely man.I always checked the results for the MGP and he was always there. May I add my sincere condolences to his family. Terry also sends his best wishes. John will certainly be with us in spirit for all time.A REAL star!
