My best memory is the time he joined my band , Paddy Goes to Holyhead, on stage at The Marquee Club, London in 1990 to guest on a few songs. His playing was brilliant, as always. All I can say is "you couldn't meet a nicer guy" I'll miss you mate but I'll never forget you. We (my wife and I) were probably in his (drinking) company fewer than a dozen times but came to recognise him as a real human being with a subtle sense of humour and with great courage (especially) in overcoming setbacks. I played (on-stage) with the great man at a couple of private gigs - even exchanging riffs "live". Now THAT'S a special memory. Thanks for all of it Mel.RegardsHILL Request removal

03.07.2008 : Tom Delaney wrote Hi , I had the honour to spend 3 or 4 days in the company of Mel & Annette when they were on a short break in Derbyshire early in the year when he was told of his illness. He spoke of his life and what he had achieved and you got the feeling had lived it fully . He spoke of family & people he had met along the way , the countries he had visited (and was asked to leave ). The thing I picked up on the most was the love he had for those close to him Annette , his family and those people close at home(the local pub & neighbours) who had helped him to try and keep his privicy. His words made me think of what I have in life , Ive made changes " youve got to live for today , you dont no whats round the corner " how true those words are. To a wonder man how had a great outlook on life and to a wonderful woman he had in Annette "GOD BLESS & KEEP YOU BY HIS SIDE " thanks for that moment Tom Request removal

06.08.2008 : derek holt wrote Mel and I go back a long way,I am a founder member of Climax Blues Band and we used to jam together in pubs around Stafford and Cannock. We wrote quite a few songs together and I loved his style of playing even though he had to wear "The Claw" to allow his fingers to pull back from the strings. He and Bernie came to see us in Germany one night, they stood at the front of the stage heckling and it was really funny.Needless to say we had a great party afterwards. He was a great guy and I feel lucky to have known him, I did get to have a pint or two with him about a month before he died and will never forget that memory. He'd said that he'd had a great life and his outlook was positive even knowing his illness was terminal.Love to you Mel and of course to your family. You will be missed but your memory will live on brother.Derek Holt. I am a jurnalist and the day I learned about his death, I was wrighting an article about "Music in 2008". I searched the web for new bands and the bands that disbanded this year, on wikipedia I found a list of people who died this year and I was shocked: Mel Galley, Bo Diddley, Jimmy Mcgriff, Jef Healey, Neil Aspinal, Richard Wright! what a year! I remember his beautiful funk-rock guitar riffs, his special way of playing lead guitar, so gentle and beautiful. His songs will be a part of my life's sound track as millions of people arround the world.Thank you Mell Galley for those songs.Rest in peace.Mo Pourkhessalian Request removal

The follow spot reflected off that pick guard with the same searing intensity that his playing and stage presence produced. I owe that man so much for the undying love and passion for rock music that he imparted into my soul that night which lasts to this day for a man of 50 years. He left us way too early. No, Mel, You are the music. God Bless and keep you, and know that you are loved and missed. Request removal
