SC Evans, 59, died as a result of injuries received on 5 December, 1963, when on point duty at night in Derby.

The officer was a part-time special constable and worked full time at the Rolls-Royce factory at Derby, which following his death developed a police helmet bearing a flashing blue light for use on point duty at night.
