Hero of our time

And your name lives for evermore

02.09.2009 : Lasting Tribute wrote Pte Kev Elliott was a unique soldier. He was excellent in the field and had a brilliant sense of humour. He was naturally fit and most importantly he was very loyal to his friends. Pte Elliott died in tragic circumstances doing what he loved.
I remember talking him shortly before we left Inverness to deploy to Afghanistan in March. He was dressed in his civilian clothes, having been de-kitted, and about to walk out of Fort George back to civilian life when he decided to sign back on. When asked why he decided to sign back on he simply said "I didn't want to miss the boys." This comment sums up his attitude to the army.
My last memory of him is seeing him overjoyed having heard that he had been chosen to go as part of a Javelin Detachment to support A Company, rather than sitting in camp.

- Captain Harry Gladstone, Fire Support Group Commander

02.09.2009 : Lasting Tribute wrote Pte Elliott was every Company Sergeant Major's nightmare in camp but a great soldier in the field on operations. Kev was partial to the odd beer or two in the UK and had an eye for the girls.
Rest in Peace Kev, you have gone but will never be forgotten by the boys of Charlie Company.

- Warrant Officer Class Two Andy Lambert

02.09.2009 : Lasting Tribute wrote Kev was cheeky but you couldn't get annoyed with him. He was always able to get a laugh in any situation. He would bend over backwards to make sure everyone was alright.
He was hilarious, confident, loyal, and above all charming. His loss will leave a big hole in the Platoon.

- Private Peter Fenton, Fire Support Group gunner

02.09.2009 : Lasting Tribute wrote A story typical of Kev was on having a room inspection in Fort George, the Platoon Sergeant opened the fridge to see it full of beer. He told Kev to get rid of it; Kev proceeded to drink the contents of the fridge in front of him and continued for the rest of the night.
Kev was kind and generous – he lived for the moment. If you asked for a fag, he threw you a packet of twenty. He was a terrible singer but my fondest memory of him was sitting in the back of a vehicle screaming out the words to 'I got you babe' at the top of his voice.

Private Kyle Russell, Fire Support Group gunner

02.09.2009 : Lasting Tribute wrote Kev was a poser – he loved his body – but underneath he cared deeply about the other people in the Platoon. He would try and wind people up but you couldn't get annoyed with him, he was too nice. He wanted to be active the entire time.
He loved being in Afghanistan and had booked a holiday to Australia for our return. He also wanted a pair of white socks to walk down Dundee High Street pulling the birds! We will all miss him badly.

- Lance Corporal Ian Bruce, Fire Support Group gunner

You Will Be Sadly Missed Son

14.09.2009 : Pete H wrote Our thoughts and prayers we share with you, the families, and friends left behind.
THANK YOU and rest in peace.

For Our Deceased Service Men and Women
You are all-powerful, God, and live forever in light and joy. Look with pity and love, we beg You, on those men and women who bravely fought and gallantly died for their country. By laying down their lives, they showed supreme love for others. Accept, we ask You, their sacrifice and their belief in the justice of the cause they died for. Let their offering not be in vain. Please forgive any sins and faults they may have committed. Speedily, we implore You, bring them into Your Presence where fear, sadness, mourning, and death cannot exist. Have pity in Your loving kindness on those they leave behind. In Your own unsearchable ways, make good for their absence, and lavishly bestow Your love and consolations on those deprived of their presence. This we ask in the Name of Christ, our Victor King. Amen.

16.09.2009 : robert wilson wrote Please accept my apolgies if my message in any way shape or form appears to be intrusive.
I am just a member of the general public who never met Kevin however I want to acknowledge with the deepest respect Kevins ultimate sacrifice.
Although his time on this earth was regretably short he obviously not only had the love of his family but love and respect from his closest friends which was so movingly demonstrated by his best friend Barry Delaney at his funeral.
In this world of hate and corruption such deep and true friendship and comaradeship is a rare and wonderful thing and regretably something many of us will never have the honour of experiencing.
Barry honouring his promise to his best friend has moved me enormously and made me realise there' is still good in this world albiet so rarely seen.
R.I.P Kevin and remain in the hearts of those you loved for ever and God provided them the with the strength to carry on and live their lives to the full.
Thank you Kevin on behalf of all the UK citizens who desperately want the peace and freedom you sadly died fighting for.

22.09.2009 : Debbie Rooney wrote A light from our family is gone
a voice we loved is stilled
a place is vacant in a home
which never can be filled.

We have to mourne the loss of 1
we would've loved to keep
but god who surely loved his best
has finally made him sleep.

After a lifetime of his love and joy
and music to fill our ears
God leaves these wondrous memories
to help us through our tears.

The friendship pact convinced me to search more online and looking and reading this much about him convinces me that he was an amazing guy who won many hearts. A great human being who shall live forever in the hearts of those who knew him.

Great servicemen and thank you for fighting to keep us together.

Great human beings, though they die, they live forever in our hearts and memories and you're no exception.

Now its ur time to soar amongst the stars with the angels.

26.09.2009 : Jean Dornan wrote Not how did he die, but how did he live?
Not what did he gain, but what did he give?
These are the units to measure the worth
Of a man as a man, regardless of birth.
Not, what was his church, nor what was his creed?
But had he befriended those really in need?
Was he ever ready, with word of good cheer,
To bring back a smile, to banish a tear?
Not what did the sketch in the newspaper say,
But how many were sorry when he passed away.

Kevin was also a much loved son-in-law to jim & jean, brother in law, enstranged husband to carol, also unlcle

17.10.2009 : Jean Dornan wrote A rose once grew
where all could see
sheltered beside a garden wall
and , as the days
passed swiftly by,
it spread its branches,
straight and tall

One day,
a beam of light shone through
a crevice that had opened wide-
the rose bent gently
toward its warmth
then passed beyond
to the other side ...

25.10.2009 : Kayleigh N wrote Your star shines the brightest.
That is one of the truest things around, every night the stars are out, i look around to see where the brightest one is, usally it is right ontop of me, i feel protected and safe! And that star is my favourite star!
My best memory of you is when i was walking down a street in Dundee and you came running up behind me and gave me a massive hug! I had no idea you were home! Was the best thing ever knowing you were safe!
You were such a gentelman to EVERYONE you know and EVERYONE will miss you, even people that dont know you payed their respects to you!
At your funeral with Barry in his dress, it showed how close you guys were! It broke my heart seeing him without you, he looked so lost! Was hard keeping strong, broke into tears but i think everyone did!
You'll be missed so much! Best soldier Afghanistan could get!
Love You Lots And Lots!

Have you ever truly heard
An Angel whisper in your ear?
Their voices are soft and comforting
Letting you know you have nothing to fear.

If you listen very carefully
You just might hear their sweet voice
Whispering to you of God's perfect love
And all things that make you rejoice.

They do their very best
To always watch over you
To keep you safe and happy
In everything you do.

So, next time

21.12.2009 : Jean Dornan wrote You never failed to do your best, your heart was true and tender,

A NEW YEAR WISH

For the New Year my wish will be
for family and friends to be happy and healthy,
I wish for lot's of laughter not tear's
for i spent a lot of time crying this year,
I dont want war and i wish for peace
i just want everyone to feel at ease,
I wish for children to feel free to play
and feel the sun on their face on a warm sunny day,
I wish for my angel's in heaven now
that they will let me know their around somehow,
Just something small to let me know they are near
keeping me calm when i feel a sadness or fear,
Another year is about to start
but my angel's will live forever right here in my heart.
