03.02.2009 : sean buls wrote I used to listen to Phil back in the 80's when he was doing The Great Eastern Express.
The music and conversations from those Friday nights were a source of inspiration and much enjoyment throughout my formative years. A great broadcaster, genuine music fan and all round decent bloke.

03.02.2009 : ann cooke wrote I would just like to offer my deepest sympathy to Phil's family and friends. He was
lovely man and although I did not know him personally, he was always a part of my life through his many radio shows. I remember him most of all for the kindness he showed to my best friend Trish Butler on the great loss of her husband Joe who also worked at Radio City during the 70;'s and 80's. Both he and Mark Jones gave so much comfort to Trish. I shall never forget him. Such a great loss to broadcasting and Liverpool. May you rest in peace Phil. xx

03.02.2009 : Lisa Melvin wrote Very saddened to hear this news. Condolences to Phils family, friends and work colleagues. We have lost one of those people who you don't realise how much they meant until they've gone. I will sorely miss Phils familar voice and great charm on the radio. RIP x x

03.02.2009 : Steve Roberts wrote May condolences for Phil Easton, he was a great presenter, and my thoughts and prayers are with his Wife and Children. A sad sudden loss

03.02.2009 : Vivienne Price wrote I fondly remember listening to The Great Easton Express & going to the rock nights at The Floral Hall in Southport - Phil Easton was a great champion of the music that I love!!!

May he rest in peace!!

03.02.2009 : Ron Ellis wrote I used to book Phil when he ran the Heavy Breathing Mobile Disco way back in the Sixties. He always put on a great show. And what a successful career he has had! Condolences to his family.

03.02.2009 : Karl Parsons wrote Such a shock to hear that Phil suddenly passed away. I will never forget getting the pizza's for U2 the night Phil interviewed them for Radio City, whilst the band were on their War Tour in 1984. Phil was a legend and his rock and roll knowledge was exceptional. Like John Peel he did so much to help bands like U2 become the names they are today. RIP

03.02.2009 : libby worgan wrote R.i.p phil, i grew up listening to you, the great easton express was fab, i cant believe you have gone, i was only listening to you yesterday, my deepest sympathy goes to your family at this very sad time, they should draw some comfort from knowing that the whole of the city and beyond will be praying for them

lots of best wishes from a lifelong radio listener

03.02.2009 : Stephanie Harris wrote Our memories of Phil go back a long way, we remember him best as a teenager and part of our crowd. We had great times, brilliant parties and life was very, very good.

We remember him best as a slim, tall youth with a mop of unruly hair. He was a fairly quiet and gentle person who was very easy to get on with. He was always attached to a beautiful woman and ended up marrying one! He was a good friend and although we lost touch latterly, we feel shock and great sadness at his passing.

Remembering the good times and sending our sympathy and support to his family.

Love from us both.

Steph and Lindsay (Brown)

03.02.2009 : Lynne Callister wrote I have spent many a morning travelling to work with Phil Easton, listening to his magic 1548 show. Also whilst working in Sue Ryder in Neston we had his show on and the customers loved the music he played....
My daughter was rung by him on the birthday call and he certainly made her day..
He will be sadly missed and my thoughts go out to his family at this time....

03.02.2009 : Sam Leach wrote Phil was one of the good guys who, despite his eminence in the broadcasting and show-biz world, was always very down-to-earth and totally approachable.
And he laid down a runway for many top local bands to take off from.

He came to chat with me recently at The Grapes Mathew St and we shared a few laughs over the `old days'.

And he could never disguise his glee when our beloved Reds did well.
Phil will be a much missed man.
With deep regrets and sympathies to his Wife and Family.
Sam Leach.

03.02.2009 : Bobby Sox wrote My wife was interviewed by Phil this time last year for the launching of her children's book. Phil was a great host and made her feel at home. My wife is not one to seek the limelight but Phil made her feel special !
Thank you Phil..

I've known Phil since the very early days.
He loved his Rock Music and the Rock bands loved Phil.
Phil's ' Easton Express' was responsible for Radio debuting many local Liverpool Rock bands...Export, Nutz, School for Girls,Supercharge etc etc...
He was my Idea of what a Local Radio Presenter should be...loving the local music scene, promoting the bands, mixing with the bands.
True genuine passion for the local scene.

A time in his life when he was looking forward to 'hanging up the microphone' and taking his family to a better life in the sun sadly his life is snatched away.
Thank you Phil for the everlasting memories....especially the wild days !
'A night out with the lads from 'Thin Lizzy' comes to mind !!!

Phil Lynott & Myllo will be first to greet you, with a Jack Daniells in one hand and a 'Rock Chick Blond ' in the other !

Bobby

03.02.2009 : Lesley Briscoe wrote God bless Phil.x

The Great Easton Express was such a big part of my youth. The music I love so much today, I have you to thank for introducing me to it.

Thoughts go to Phils family at such a difficult time.

03.02.2009 : Steve Colman wrote As a broadcaster working in the NE of England I would always hear the name Phil Easton. Our paths crossed on the phone and in the footballing world, I was there on Sunday as a Blue supporter as he announced the teams and I would always forgive him because of his passion for Liverpool FC. He goes to the beyond having beaten Chelsea again in an important game, he will be a very happy person leaving behind a lot of very sad people. I hope everyone who ever heard his voice and wit will think of him when as I'm sure they will, Liverpool recognise the "Voice of Liverpool" at some stage. I might even forgive Mike Riley for your sake. Bye Phil.

04.02.2009 : Stephen Jones wrote To all his family and friends,
I was so sorry to hear about Phil dying. He was the kind of person you always thought would be around forever. I remember Phil when he was a member of the Mid Wirral Motor Club in the 70's when he was rallying..

04.02.2009 : jacqueline butt wrote You never failed to do your best, your heart was true and tender,
You simply lived for those you loved and those you loved remember.

My thoughts are with Phil's family. I had the pleasure of knowing and working with Phil, and that I am so proud of. The world has lost a shining star, but a star that will never be forgotten, Phil will be greatly missed, he was known and loved by many people, and I will never forget what a great and caring man Phil was, not to mention the voice of radio.

04.02.2009 : T Pearson wrote What a truly sad day yesterday was upon hearing the news about Phil. How cruel lilfe can be to snatch away his retirement and all his future plans for him and his lovely family.

I have listened to Phil for the past 30 years or so, remembering him at the start of 194 - Radio City - with Dave Lincoln and Norman Thomas to name a few. There will be many who have grown up listening to his joyful radio voice, across the various stations he was fortunate to work on.

Deepest sympathy to all of his work colleagues, family and dear friends. He was a joy to listen to and I sincerely hope you take comfort from all the wonderful tributes that are pouring in for him, he would have been ever so chuffed.

Thinking of you all x

04.02.2009 : Andrew Creevy wrote The 70's and 80's for me were an important time of my life as I left my teens and entered my 20's and my musical tastes grew broader.

Part of that experience was "The Great Easton ExpresS". What Phil didn't know about rock music or music of any kind, for thatt matter was not worth knowing.

You will be sorely missed by many Phil. Rest in Peace and keep rocking up there.

From a Blue Fan, who also listened to you when you hosted match day shows.

God Bless!

04.02.2009 : Richard Seddon wrote What a sad loss.
Phil was instrumental in the path towards my lasting musical taste. The Easton Express, with Phil manning the engine, was my guiding light into the world of rock music.
Never met him but always wanted to.
I'll never forget the show when he invited Phil Collins to guest it. I thought we were in for a treat (as the guests chose their own music for the evening). Collins chose one soul / R & B track after another. A wasted night that one and I'm sure Phil must've been cringing into his headphones. Never bought a Genesis album again.
RIP Phil. We'll all miss you.

04.02.2009 : DarceysDad . wrote ... And another one from an ex-Great Easton Express regular listener. Blimey, I even had the T-shirt. I only met him a few times - normally in the bar of the Empire or Royal Court at yet another gig his show had mentioned - but always found him friendly, patient, and ridiculously enthusiastic about the music. And how many of us got requests played after scribbling something on a beer mat?! (They always went in the "good pocket" so that he stood a chance of still being able to read them 24/48 hrs later.) Goodnight and God bless, Phil, I'll have a pint in your name later, during the derby, natch, when I've got the kids in bed.

04.02.2009 : keith blundell wrote Phil Easton, a true rock radio legend!! i used to love listening to "THE GREAT EASTON EXPRESS", playing all the cool stuff of the day,he had loads of guests on too,got to meet Phil Lynot,Gillan,Coverdale, happy teenage memories, then there was the Floral Hall, what a true gent, and star, always saying yes to everything you asked to be played and ignoring it !! haha, but the best was his birthday, the floral tradition of getting a pint of shots from the bar was up held in fine style by Phil, who downed it in one like a true pro and then was so drunk he couldn't stand and was sick too i seem to remember!! but in true rock n roll style he tried to continue and failed lol a true broadcasting legend, what a man.. you will be sadly missed
God bless Phil.R.I.P
