Remembering former Gresley FC club chairman Alf Corner, who died on 21 January, 2010, aged 72.

Described as “a Moat-man through and through”, Mr Corner grew up with the club, formerly known as Gresley Rovers, where his father, Walter, was club physio.

He was chairman in the 1970s before becoming chairman of the social club committee the following decade.

Former club secretary Peter Jenkinson recalled the effort he put in at the club, which extended to helping to build the social club – a former roadman’s hut.

Harry Southern, who runs the Moat Ground’s social club, described him as a “true gentleman, a true friend to Gresley and a great chap.”
