Your Memories

Cranham Church was overwhelmed by over 370 people who attended a memorial service in memory of Barbara Clapton on 2 September.

Born in Gloucestershire, Barbara had been an active member of Guide Movement before becoming a Venture Scout Leaders at Eastcombe Scout Group in 1987.

Ken and Barbara moved to Cranham in 1993 after Ken was appointed Manager of Gloucestershire’s County Scouting Centre. Before long Barbara was also running the village post office. It didn't matter if you were one of the many local, national or international Scouting visitors Barbara welcomed to Cranham each year, a Cranham villager at one of the many village events hosted at the Centre, or Gloucestershire Police who used the Centre for training, Barbara made everyone feel welcome.

Barbara also volunteered County Scouting Administrator, a member of the County’s Adult Leader Training Team and the Scout Child Protection Officer for Gloucestershire. She was greatly respected for her efficiency, helpfulness and outstanding service to others. Beyond Scouting Barbara served as a School Governor at Cranham School, served on the Church cleaning rota, and contributed in many ways to the village life.

Barbara enriched the lives of thousands people; she will be greatly missed.
