28.10.2009 : Russell Griffith wrote I first met Sir Bader as a fifth grader in a ghetto school om Philadelphia. I read his book rreach for the sky so often I was told just tpo brig it back, Both my parents were disbaled and we had no money so I shined shoes til I was able to afford a plastic Hurricane model. that model and books flew me to places I ever imagined. At 17 I joined the miltary and flew as an enlisted gunner for 20 years. the adventures I have had.
When I retired I became a counselor helping people with disabilities . I have a small bust of sir Bader flanked by models of his SPitfire and Hurricane, When I have a really dfiificult client who sees no hope I pull out my original Reach for the sky (I asked the school for it when I went to Vietnam) and I tell him the story of sir Bader On a personal note my many years of flying have left me busted up also, and I live my life as painful as it gets by his measure, So I also read the stroies and tell myself to buck up as Sir Bader would,
